Drinking from a plastic water bottle is a common and convenient practice which comes with some serious downsides. We all know that filling up a glass or reusable bottle is much cheaper than getting a bottle of packaged drinking water but we still prefer the latter. Drinking from plastic water bottles has innumerable ill effects on the health as well as the environment.
The process of making these water bottles, getting them filled and shipped to different parts of the world uses up a lot of fossil fuels. Also, these bottles are not biodegradable and are going to stick around on the planet for thousands of years. Even with recycling, 6 out of the 7 bottles are downcycled and made into other plastic objects which would still be present on earth.
Plastic is not just bad for the planet but also for you. Given the discussions about the ill effects of BPA, a lot of general public was enlightened about the use of BPA in the production of plastic bottles as well as their ill effects. This is the reason why a lot of plastic bottle manufacturers stopped using BPA in their water bottles. But even if they don’t use BPA, there are a lot of other chemicals present in plastic bottles which may seep into the water when exposed to high temperatures or left to sit for a long time. The worst thing is that some of these chemicals are possible endocrine disrupters and what health disturbances they are capable of causing.
But luckily, there are other durable and healthier alternatives easily available in the market. One such option is copper water bottles which are recommended by the ancient medical science, Ayurveda. When water is stored in copper water bottles, tiny particles of copper leach into the water making it copper charged. This copper infused water when consumed on an empty stomach is believed to prevent and cure a number of health conditions.
Water stored in pure copper water bottles is also free of bacteria such as E.coli and S.aureus which are two most common types of bacteria polluting drinking water and causing water-borne diseases.
